Service 01

Substation Construction & Commissioning

PSD builds new (greenfield) substations, modifies and expands existing ones, and commissions the equipment so it is tested and ready for service.

Typical scope

  • Greenfield (new) substation construction
  • Modifications to existing substations
  • Equipment installation
  • Substation commissioning and testing

When it is needed

  • New substations for utility, industrial, or generation projects
  • Adding or replacing equipment in an existing substation
  • Projects that need construction and commissioning from one contractor

Service 02

Substation Maintenance, Testing & Troubleshooting

Planned maintenance and electrical testing help asset owners understand the condition of substation equipment and plan repairs before problems become outages. When something goes wrong, PSD troubleshoots on site. PSD works on transformers, breakers, switchgear, and relays, and provides documented results.

Typical scope

  • Substation troubleshooting
  • Transformer testing and maintenance
  • Circuit breaker testing and maintenance
  • Switchgear testing and maintenance
  • Protective relay testing
  • Insulation resistance and power factor testing
  • Visual and infrared inspection
  • Test reports for asset records

When it is needed

  • Scheduled preventive maintenance cycles
  • Troubleshooting abnormal operation, trips, or alarms
  • Condition assessment before upgrades or acquisitions

Service 03

Power Circuit Breaker Testing & Maintenance

Power circuit breakers protect substation equipment by interrupting faults. PSD tests and maintains SF6, oil, and vacuum breakers.

Typical scope

  • SF6 circuit breakers
  • Oil circuit breakers
  • Vacuum circuit breakers
  • Breaker testing and maintenance
  • Documentation of test results

When it is needed

  • Scheduled maintenance of substation breakers
  • Breakers that trip, alarm, or fail to operate as expected
  • New breaker installations and substation upgrades

Service 04

Transformer Commissioning

Before a new, rebuilt, or relocated power transformer is energized, commissioning tests verify that it arrived undamaged, was assembled correctly, and is ready for service. PSD supports owners and contractors through acceptance testing and documentation.

Typical scope

  • Receiving inspection and impact recorder review
  • Turns ratio, winding resistance, and excitation tests
  • Insulation power factor and capacitance testing
  • Bushing, tap changer, and accessory checks
  • Oil sampling and baseline analysis
  • Commissioning documentation

When it is needed

  • New transformer installations
  • Transformers returned from repair or relocated
  • Acceptance testing on behalf of owners or EPC contractors

Service 05

Transformer Oil Processing

Insulating oil keeps transformers cool and electrically insulated. Over time, moisture, gas, and particles reduce its effectiveness. Oil processing restores oil condition on site, and it is also used when filling new or repaired units.

Typical scope

  • Filtration and dehydration of insulating oil
  • Vacuum degassing
  • Vacuum filling of new or repaired transformers
  • Hot-oil circulation for dry-out
  • Before-and-after oil sampling

When it is needed

  • Oil test results show elevated moisture or contamination
  • Filling a transformer after installation or repair
  • Maintenance programs to extend transformer service life

Service 06

Transformer Oil Testing

Oil analysis is one of the most informative ways to monitor a transformer without taking it out of service. PSD collects oil samples in the field and sends them to a laboratory for analysis, then reviews the results with you. Regular sampling builds a history that helps detect developing issues and prioritize maintenance.

Typical scope

  • Proper field sampling of insulating oil
  • Laboratory analysis, including dissolved gas analysis (DGA)
  • Moisture content and dielectric breakdown
  • Acidity, interfacial tension, and color
  • Furan analysis when needed
  • Results review and recommendations

When it is needed

  • Routine condition monitoring programs
  • After a fault, alarm, or unusual operating event
  • Baseline testing after commissioning or oil processing

Service 07

Battery Bank Testing & Installation

Substation battery banks keep protective relays, breaker controls, and communications working when AC power is lost. PSD tests existing battery banks and installs new ones.

Typical scope

  • Battery bank testing
  • Battery bank installation
  • Documentation of test results

When it is needed

  • Routine maintenance of substation DC systems
  • Replacing aging battery banks
  • New substation construction or upgrades
